Non-Exclusive

A non-exclusive license grants you the right to use my design for an agreed product category, territory, and time frame, while I retain full copyright ownership.

The same design may also be licensed to other companies simultaneously. In addition, non-exclusive designs may remain available on print-on-demand platforms like Spoonflower, where individuals can apply the design to personal products.

For example, you may license a design for home decor, while another brand licenses it for textiles or wallpaper under separate agreements.

Exclusive

An exclusive license grants you sole rights to use a specific design within an agreed product category, territory, and time frame. During the license period, no other company will be permitted to use that design within the defined scope.

Copyright ownership remains with Cilsila unless otherwise negotiated. Any usage outside the agreed terms requires additional approval and amendment to the contract.

For example, if you secure exclusive rights for home décor in North America for three years, no other brand may use that design in that category and region during that period. After the term ends, rights may be renewed or revert according to the agreement.

However, I may still be able to license the same design in different product categories and different territories.

Buyout (Full Right Purchase)

A buyout transfers full ownership and copyright of the design to you permanently.

Once completed, you may use, reproduce, modify, and distribute the design without limitation, and it will no longer be licensed to others. I will not retain usage rights unless otherwise agreed.

For example, purchasing a design outright for global use across all product categories grants you complete and permanent control of that artwork.

1. What does it mean to license artwork?

Licensing means you are granted the legal right to use my designs on your products for an agreed purpose, time frame, and territory. Ownership of the artwork remains with Cilsila, while you receive the rights outlined in our contract.

2. How is licensing different from purchasing artwork outright?

When artwork is purchased outright (buyout), full ownership is transferred to the buyer. Licensing, however, allows you to use the design under specific terms while I retain copyright. Licensing is often a more flexible and strategic option for brands.

3. What types of products can your designs be licensed for?

My designs are suitable for a range of categories, including textiles, wallpaper, home décor, apparel, and lifestyle products. If you have a specific application in mind, we can discuss suitability.

4. Do you offer exclusive licenses?

5. How does the licensing process work?

The process is simple and professional:

You select designs from my portfolio.
We discuss usage details (product category, territory, duration, exclusivity).
A licensing agreement is signed.
Final artwork files are delivered in the required format. From there, your product development can begin.

6. Can a design be customized for my brand?

Minor adjustments such as color refinements or scale changes, may be possible depending on the agreement. Custom projects can also be discussed separately.

7. Can licensed designs be used across multiple product categories?

Usage is defined in the licensing agreement. If you wish to expand into additional categories, we can adjust the terms accordingly.

8. How much does licensing a design cost?

Pricing depends on factors such as exclusivity, product category, territory, duration, and production volume. Once I understand your project scope, I provide a tailored proposal.
